EXPLORE THE COMPLETE STORY ↓Overview
Made for Love is HBO Max’s darkly comic science-fiction series based on the novel by Alissa Nutting. It follows Hazel Green (Cristin Milioti), a woman trying to rebuild her independence after escaping a controlling tech-billionaire husband, Byron Gogol (Billy Magnussen), who has secretly implanted surveillance technology in her brain.
Season 2 premiered April 28, 2022, bringing Hazel back into the high-tech world of the Hub as dangerous new forms of artificial intelligence and virtual reality complicate her escape.
Paula Abdul as Anydoors
Paula guest stars as Anydoors, a holographic A.I. version of herself. Her performance adds an unusual pop-culture twist to a series already filled with surreal technology, digital personalities and questions about identity.
Her character appears during Season 2, including the episodes “You’re Not the First” (episode 5) and “Alice? Are You Listening?” (episode 6). The show’s creators later described how delighted they were when Paula agreed to take the part after being included in an ambitious early script.
Season 2 Trailer
The Season 2 trailer introduces the Hub’s escalating technological schemes. It is a trailer for the season, not specifically a clip of Paula as Anydoors.
How Paula Joined the Series
In an interview about Season 2, showrunners Christina Lee and Alissa Nutting explained that they had written a part imagining Paula Abdul, then discovered she was interested in appearing. They praised her performance as the holographic A.I. and the playful contrast it brought to the show’s unusual world.
